Janika Solmann is a plant enthusiast who works in her studio at Liiva-ATE and on a small farm in Võrumaa. She gained her knowledge of plants while studying horticulture at the Estonian University of Life Sciences. Currently, she studies native textiles at UT Viljandi Culture Academy.

Janika has eco-printed with plants for nearly ten years and improved herself under several European masters. She has organised several shorter and longer workshops to share knowledge with others. You can get a good overview of Janika's work on her @naturalsolmann Instagram and Facebook page.

Botanical printing is a captivating technique. The pigments leave permanent impressions on the fabric. The character, shape and energy of eco-printed plants on natural materials are even more valuable.

Plants are on a fabric, ready for eco-printing

The aim of the workshop is to go through the silk and cotton printing process. Janika gives recommendations on which fabrics to choose for printing and where to find suitable plants. Many beautiful plants grow around us in nature, so you don't have to have a personal flower garden to print with plants. You will learn how to prepare fabrics for printing and little tricks for the best final results.

Each participant will make at least two items - a silk scarf and a towel or shopping bag made of cellulose fibres. You will also get written study material from the workshop to repeat everything at home.

The participation fee includes all materials and tools needed in the workshop. The workshop is suitable for beginners.
