Margus Rebane (born in 1968) grew up in the middle of the bogs and forests of Pärnumaa. He learned basket weaving and other types of woodworking from his grandfather as a boy. Margus has now been making baskets for 35 years, and he has been a teacher for 15 years of that time. He has conducted various courses on basket weaving and stone carving in Estonia, Norway, Israel, Uzbekistan and other countries, and he has participated in various thematic exhibitions in Estonia, Lithuania and Israel.

Stone carving is an ancient art dating back thousands of years. Stone is a durable material that resists the wear and tear of time. Margus discovered this technique in 1986. He has had students from the age of 4 and up to the age of 80. Stone carving is a hobby which can fit on the palm of your hand and can be done anywhere and anytime.

In the workshop, participants will carve the Estonian national stone, limestone, with small knives. They can form various signs, letters, ornaments, masks, faces or pictures on the stones. As a result of the course, the participants will be able to select and distinguish between types of raw stone material and will be able to use carving tools to express their creativity. Every participant will make their own tool.

By the end of the workshop, each participant will have several carved stones. The stones can be turned into jewelry, pocket stones or a small statue.

The participation fee includes the stones and the use of carving tools. The course is suitable for beginners.
