Izumi Ashizawa is a Japanese director, dramatist, actor, dancer and choreographer and a lecturer in the New York Stony Brook University. Ashizawa is telling stories through physical self-expression, dolls and items.

On Friday the 16th of November Viljandi Culture Academy will host a conference on heritage technology on the topic "Workshops and tools". In addition, the new edition of Studia Vernacula is introduced and Anu Raua's scholarship is handed out. 
The focus of the conference is on hand-craft tools and work environment as a development and research object. The practicians, who will speak, are giving the sense to work environments and tools.

University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy will host the 2018 IASJ meeting from July 2-7, 2018. Representatives, students and lecturers taking part in the IASJ meeting (International Association for Schools of Jazz) will discuss pedagogical, philosophical and administrative issues. The event is also a great opportunity to make new contacts, make music together and gain valuable experience. Throughout the event there will also be three concerts that are open to everyone interested. The concerts take place in the Traditional Music Centre.

With great sorrow, the University of Tartu announces the unexpected death of Rector Volli Kalm on Saturday, December 23.

Volli Kalm was born on February 10, 1953 in Vändra. He graduated from the University of Tartu in 1976 with a degree in geology. In 1984, Kalm earned his PhD in geology from the Estonian Academy of Sciences after successfully defending his doctoral thesis "Formation, composition and usage of glaciofluvial deposits in Estonia."

From 1988-1989, he attended postdoctoral studies in the geology department of the University of Alberta.

Rector Volli Kalm said the new director of administration has been in charge of several different areas of activity in his career and is a top leader with international work experience.
