On Friday the 16th of November Viljandi Culture Academy will host a conference on heritage technology on the topic "Workshops and tools". In addition, the new edition of Studia Vernacula is introduced and Anu Raua's scholarship is handed out.
The focus of the conference is on hand-craft tools and work environment as a development and research object. The practicians, who will speak, are giving the sense to work environments and tools. During their presentations, they will stop on the history of generating tools and on the current situation. In addition, also work environment design and microclimate.
The department head Ave Matsin says, that every master has a special and personal relationship with their tools. "The success of the process is very much related to the quality of tools, that have a concrete aim. We hope, that the topic we focus on, will help to contribute to the research of working tools and environments and will inspire masters to give a deeper meaning to those".
The conference started in 2013, when the first edition of Studia Vernacula, a handcraft magazine, was published. "Then it seemed appropriate to celebrate a new research direction with a conference," added Matsin. During the years, various topics have been under observation: local natural materials, terminology and research on materialistic culture. "Through this conference, we can focus on one narrower field, which helps to support heritage technology in general," added Matsin.
In addition, the scholarship of artist Anu Raud will be handed out to a student of the national handcraft department, who has done excellent work on research of cultural heritage and keeping it safe.
Konverentsi korraldab TÜ Viljandi kultuuriakadeemia rahvusliku käsitöö osakond kuuendat korda.
