On the 23rd of November, a new board of advisors gathered in Viljandi Culture Academy to discuss the present and the future course of the academy.
At the first meeting, the role of the Culture Academy in the educational scene and the balance between being international and national was discussed. In addition, new possibilities were discovered for collaboration with various entrepreneurs. Kaupo Reede, the head of economic development in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, was selected for the head of the council. The vice chairman is Anu-Maaja Pallok, the advisor for creative economy in the Ministry of Culture.
Iñaki Sandoval, the director of Viljandi Culture Academy, says that the knowledge, competencies and advice of the members are very valuable, especially on the topics that the academy still needs to develop. "My wish was to discuss the challenges, how we can maintain and strengthen the Estonian cultural and educational field and the role of the academy in it," added Sandoval.
The head of the council, Kaupo Reede stated, that the culture academy has done well. "We have to build all of the activities around the core, which is heritage culture. Keeping and developing it is our strength," said Reede. In his opinion, the risk of choosing a director from a different cultural room has paid off. " I believe, that this is a good example for other universities in Estonia. We want to be and need to be international, this is a necessity when you want to be competitive," added Reede.
In addition to the chairman and vice chairman, the members are producer Kaupo Karelson, board member of Cleveron AS Arno Kütt, regional development department head of Ministry of Finance Priidu Ristkok, professor of theatre research Anneli Saro, chairman of the Viljandi City Council and Member of the parliament Helir-Valdor Seeder, undersecretary of the arts at the Ministry of Culture Hillar Sein, NGO Music Estonia board member Virgo Sillamaa, mayor of Viljandi Madis Timpson and the director of Estonian Folk Culture Centre Kalle Vister. In addition, the departments and the board of Viljandi Culture Academy were presented.
The council of advisers is an advisory body that links the Academy, the governing bodies of the university, employers and community organizations in matters relating to the field of activity of the Academy. The meeting will take place at least once a year.
