The last study session for InOut Erasmus+ project took place in Vienna between April 4 – 14, 2018. Throughout the 10 days, eight distinguished lecturers and a number of students from eight different European universities took place in the event. The core for the intensive course was to find ways how to include students from different cultural backgrounds with a different set of skills and how to avoid students from getting excluded or rejected from the education system. Viljandi Culture Academy had 3 students from Leisure Time Manager-Teacher program taking part of the event as well as one master student from Tartu.

Iti-Jantra Metsamaa, third year student from Leisure Time Manager-Teacher curricula had this to say about her experience: “Vienna welcomed us with incredible warmth physically and emotionally. The city is exceptionally grandiose and remarkably interesting. There is a lot to see and do. From a point of view a future youth worker, this program allowed me to have an overview about the current situation in education and youth work policies in other countries. I gained a lot of courage, new perspectives and plenty of new ideas that I can use and test out in my future endeavours.“

Her fellow student from the same course Kristi Tüvi added: “The most memorable thing is for sure the whole process. If I think about how I felt and what I thought on the very first day of the project and how I feel now, I can say that taking part in this project has given me more than just an overview about education system, study methods, new contacts and good friends. Throughout the project, I also grew as an individual and took a big step forward in my mindset and attitude. Spending 10 days with people who bring a set of different experiences and expertise helps to grow as a person more than spending six months in your own comfort zone. Participating in such a program is a great way how to challenge yourself, to see what I can do and how I can get involved to make sure our education system and our society can become more supportive and youth friendly.”

Iti-Jantra believes that participating in such programs should become “mandatory” because it really broadens one’s perspective and is a great environment for fresh ideas and new ways of thinking about matters. Besides new ideas and fresh perspectives there are always amazing people involved and saying goodbye to them at the end of the program is a difficult task. But great memories and an experience of a lifetime is guaranteed.

Main people involved with the current InOut project have already submitted a new application for Erasmus+ to ask funding for a future educational program called “ReCreaDe”. The aim of the project is to continue educating future teachers through creative methods in order to achieve a more democratic education system.
