Admission to the University of Tartu has started

The University of Tartu invites international students interested in international bachelor’s and master’s studies to submit their applications in DreamApply. Applicants can use a brand new curriculum search system that gives a better overview of the available programmes, has a convenient searching option and helps to find a programme that suits the applicant’s needs the best. Studies start at the end of August 2022.

Last autumn, 659 international students started their studies at the University of Tartu. Quite many of them stayed in their home country and participated in studies online for a shorter or longer period. According to Aune Valk, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Tartu, the university will do all it can to maintain face-to-face studies and provide real university experience to all students for the semesters ahead.

“We understand that international students applying for the 2022 admission may be concerned about the difficulties of travelling to Estonia as well as the form of study, since the past years have shown how rapidly the global situation may change. Just like in the recent years, we promise to do everything we can to facilitate the arrival of new international students in Estonia,” said Valk.

This year, the University of Tartu offers admission to 31 international curricula, including 27 English-taught master’s programmes, one Russian-taught master’s programme, two English-taught bachelor’s programmes and an integrated curriculum in Medicine. In addition, admission to seven joint master’s programmes is coordinated by our partner universities. Both those who will graduate in summer 2022 and those who have graduated in the previous years are welcome to apply.

Three new topical English-taught master’s programmes are launched. The online programme “Clinical Pharmacy”  is unique in the region. It focuses on helping pharmacists to acquire and demonstrate the competencies in clinical pharmacy through a rigorous programme of study, problem-based approach and a large amount of practical training. The online programme is designed to provide a professional development opportunity  for pharmacists working in a hospital or community pharmacy in Estonia or abroad.

Malnutrition and the increasing problems associated with obesity indicate a growing clinical need for relevantly educated professionals. The “Clinical Nutrition” programme is the only one of its kind in the European Union and provides the necessary knowledge and skills to develop clinical nutrition in hospitals, family practices, and nursing homes, and in sports medicine, public health and the food industry.

The master's programme “Estonian and Finno-Ugric Languages”  is the only one in the region to combine in-depth language learning with comprehensive, English-based studies in linguistics, specialising either in Estonian or Finno-Ugric languages. The programme focuses on active language learning, combining theory and practice and the development of area-related digital skills.  No prior knowledge of Finno-Ugric languages is required.

Applications to international master’s studies can be submitted until 15 March, applications to bachelor’s studies and integrated studies in Medicine until 15 April. There are two exceptions.

  • The application deadline to the Erasmus Mundus joint master's programme “Excellence in Analytical Chemistry” coordinated by the University of Tartu is 11 January.

  • Another exception is the master’s programme “Entrepreneurship in Economic Policymaking” where applicants with previous education or professional experience in economics or business can file an application in autumn (from 1 to 15 September) and studies begin in spring semester 2022/2023.

Application requirements depend on the curriculum. For detailed information, see the web page of the particular curriculum. For general information and the brand new curriculum search system, see the University of Tartu admissions website ut.ee/admissions.

Estonian applicants can start submitting their applications to international curricula in the admission information system SAIS on 1 February. For information in Estonian, see ut.ee/et/sisseastumine-ja-ope.
