For nearly two centuries, the delicate art of Haapsalu lace has captivated hearts and minds. This intricate craft, woven from fine woolen yarn, continues to thrive today. Adhering to strict guidelines, Haapsalu scarves and shawls often feature woven nupps and are always adorned with elegant edge lace. The unique nupps-knitting technique used in Haapsalu is truly one-of-a-kind.
In this workshop, you'll delve into the rich history and technical nuances of Haapsalu lace. You'll learn the rules governing this exquisite craft and practice knitting the middle section of a scarf, as well as a separate edge lace. We'll also explore the art of nupps-knitting, a hallmark of Haapsalu lace. To complete your sample, you'll practice finishing techniques that will elevate your work.
To participate, you should have a basic understanding of knitting patterns and some prior knitting experience. Fine wool yarn, wooden needles, and other necessary tools will be provided by the instructor. However, if you prefer, you can bring your own pointed wooden needles (2.5-3mm).
