Liis Luhamaa is a researcher of historical Estonian textile dyes and dyeing technologies. She has master's degrees in biology and native crafts and has been dyeing with natural dyes over 15 years. Liis has been teaching natural dye and indigo workshops for years as she loves to introduce the colourful world of natural dyes to the others. Indigo pigment

Indigo is a beautiful and durable natural blue dye that has been extensively used in Estonian traditional textiles. Indigo is a vat dye and therefore dyeing with indigo is very different from other natural dyes.

In this workshop you will learn all the basics of indigo dyeing - how to prepare yarns for indigo dyeing, how to make an indigo stock solution, how to create and maintain an indigo dyeing vat. Every participant will get plenty of hands-on experience in dyeing woollen yarn different shades of indigo blue. You will also learn to overdye plant-dyed yellow yarn to get beautiful greens.

The participation fee includes four 50 gram skeins of woollen yarn that participants will dye indigo blue and green shades during the workshop. Workshop is suitable for beginners.
