Silversmithing is an ancient craft, started by early civilizations like Mesopotamia and Egypt. It is the art of shaping silver to make beautiful objects. Silversmiths create long-lasting treasures, such as delicate jewelry, elegant tableware, and decorative pieces.

In this workshop, you will learn a key technique of silversmithing called forging. Forging means using hammers to shape metal. You will start with a small silver bar and use forging to shape it into a unique spoon. By the end of the day, you will have made your own one-of-a-kind silver spoon, proving your creativity and skill.

What to expect:

• Safety First: We'll provide safety glasses to protect your eyes.
• Essential Tools: You'll have access to an anvil, various hammers, a gas burner, a brass brush, and a polishing machine.
• Your Silver Journey: You'll work with a small silver bar, weighing approximately 20-25 grams.
• Material Cost: Please note that you'll be responsible for the cost of the silver used. The current price of silver is around €2 per gram.

Meet the instructor

Tõnis Luik is a skilled blacksmith who honed his craft at the Viljandi Culture Academy. He now shares his knowledge with students at the academy's forge while also creating custom pieces. As an active member of the Estonian Association of Blacksmiths, he is deeply committed to preserving this ancient art.
