Estonian Native Textile

If you would like to obtain unique knowledge in the field of native crafts and art, with a specialization on textiles, then this module will surely meet your expectations. University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy is one of the few places in the world that teaches these subjects at applied higher education level.

From renowned Estonian artisans you will learn Estonian native textile heritage, its history, compositional techniques, and technology as well as the ability to keep, continue and re-use the traditions of Estonian native handicraft in the field of textile.

In addition to your native crafts experience, the three sub-modules of the study module teach you the basic knowledge of Estonian language and provide you with social competences crucial for life and professional career.

Students are expected to:

  • have good manual skills and previous basic experience in certain textile techniques;
  • be prepared to purchase materials and a few tools.
