The application period for this year's admissions has concluded, with the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy receiving 576 applications, a figure comparable to last year's intake.

The greatest interest was in the Community Education and Hobby Activities and Cultural Management professional higher education programmes, each attracting more than four applicants per study place.

According to Ott Karulin, Director of the Viljandi Culture Academy, this year's admissions have been successful, with application numbers remaining close to last year's total of 588.

"Considering that we did not admit students to the Acting programme this year – traditionally one of our most competitive programmes – these results are very encouraging. It is particularly gratifying to see strong competition for our long-established music and performing arts programmes, as well as for newer programmes such as the master's programme in Arts and Technology Education. Our admissions committees now have an intensive selection process ahead of them," said Karulin.

Entrance examinations will take place from 6 to 9 July, and the list of admitted students will be confirmed later this month.

This year, applications were accepted for the following professional higher education programmes:

  • Performing Arts: Visual Technology and Technical Production;
  • Music: Estonian Traditional Music, Rhythm Music, Sound Engineering and School Music;
  • Native Crafts: Textiles and Circular Technologies;
  • Cultural Management;
  • Community Education and Hobby Activities.

Applications were also accepted for the master's programmes in Creative Applications of Cultural Heritage and Arts and Technology Education. Earlier this spring, admissions took place for the international Creative Project Management master's programme.
