Viljandi Culture Academy is present at Tallinn Design Festival

Viljandi Culture Academy is present at this year’s Tallinn Design Festival. The exhibition "Firmament II" showcases the works of native metalwork students. Traditional forgings, jewellery and metal forms as well as objects in modern technologies are exhibited. Each object is as a star in the galaxy, moving on its reference point, whilst being part of a big firmament in the exposition.

The idea has its roots in this year’s Folk Music Festival that hosted an exhibition titled "Firmament" that showcased the works of native metalwork students and the updated version "Firmament II" is now  part of this year’s Tallinn Design Festival program.

The head of the Estonian Native Crafts Department Ave Matsin said that the native metalwork curriculum is one of a kind in Estonia and its purpose is to preserve and research the traditional metalwork and find modern approaches to it.  It is a great visualization of our inherited culture and its many facets.

The main idea of the exhibition came from the guest lecturer for native metalwork Marita Lumi and it is carried out in cooperation with the head of the native metalwork program Eilve Manglus, metalwork student Indrek Ikkonen and project manager Lembe Lahtmaa.
