IASJ annual jazz meeting will be held in Viljandi from July 2-7 2018. The event will bring together more than one hundred jazz students, musicians and teachers from all around the world. Tuulike Kivestu, Vice Director for Academic Affairs and Development at Viljandi Culture Academy proudly accepted the official flag of the organisation and with that the hosting torch was officially passed from Siena, Italy to Viljandi, Estonia. Tuulike Kivestu will also be the lead organizer for next year’s event.
The General Assembly of last year’s IASJ (International Association of Schools of Jazz), held in the Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA decided that the 2018 annual jazz meeting will take place in Viljandi.
Every year over 80 top level jazz schools from more than 40 countries gather for an annual jazz meeting. IASJ enables students, teachers and staff to broaden their horizons through contact with colleagues from all over the world and enables students, teachers and staff of schools of jazz around the world to connect, to learn from each other and to perform at the highest international level.
The first IASJ Jazz Meeting took place in The Hague, The Netherlands in 1989. Ever since, jazz schools that play a major role in jazz and jazz education in Europe and the USA have hosted the IASJ Jazz Meeting.
